Political Consultant Hit With $6 Million Fine and Criminal Charges for Fake Biden Robocalls

A political consultant, Steve Kramer, has been charged with 26 criminal counts in New Hampshire for sending AI-generated robocalls that mimicked President Biden's voice and discouraged people from voting in the state's primary. The Federal Communications Commission also proposed a $6 million fine against Kramer, marking the first time the agency has imposed a fine related to generative AI technology. Kramer has admitted to commissioning the robocalls, claiming he did it as a warning about the potential dangers of AI. The calls used call-spoofing technology, which violates federal caller-ID laws, and have been widely condemned as an attempt to suppress voter turnout.

So, not only is AI writing our news articles now, it's also making phone calls and impersonating politicians? What is this, the plot to a bad 90's sci-fi movie? I'm guessing the next step

I'm surprised he didn't get fined for trying to sound like Biden in the first place. 😂

So, the FCC is now punishing people for using AI to sound like Biden? Is that a new rule? Because I've been hearing Biden-esque speeches from actual politicians for years. They might as well fine everyone in Congress.
